Blessing Day Outfit

This little boy's blessing was held on Sunday, our first anniversary April 14, 2013. I knew I was going to make his outfit, and was planning on a dress shirt onesie, vest, tie, pants, and shoes. As it turned out, I loved his shirt too much to cover it up. I also love his chubby baby legs and since he's so little, we got away with no pants! Parker got another pair of shoes, and we went with a store-bought bow tie to make his eyes pop.

I drafted the pattern for his shirt and kept as many dress shirt details as I could like a back yoke, collar, and collar stand. The buttons are completely functional to help get it on and off even though it is made of a stretch cotton. There are three snaps at the bottom for the closure.

I tweaked the pattern found here for his shoes. When making these, I sew a snap into the flap so they stay on better.

This little man is so dapper and is growing up way too fast!

The Bink

This little boy loves his binky. He has to have it in the car, during most diaper changes, and especially before bed. The problem is, sometimes it doesn't stay in place very good. In the middle if the night I find myself stretching over into his bassinet to find it and put in back into his mouth. He will start to hyperventilate when he doesn't have it and goes to town sucking when he gets it back.

Pajamas

I'm going to play catch up a little bit, but I realized I should take advantage of blogging from my phone! I take pictures almost every day and I can record the little things that happen.
Parker doesn't wear pajamas that much, just onsies to bed. I knew that the newborn pajamas wouldn't fit anymore so I broke out the 3 months. They just barely fit! My baby is literally growing up too fast. There is no way I am going to look at 6 month clothes for my 6 week old baby.

Poor Boy

This has been a rough week for everyone. Parker has not been feeling good. He has been waking up screaming, won't calm down enough to eat, only sleeps for an hour at a time, throwing up, and needs to be held constantly. We finally got in at the doctor's yesterday. Parker weighed in at 10 1/2 lbs so this chubster is gaining great. He does have reflux though which we were able to get medication for. It's seeming to work so finger's crossed we have our happy boy back and feeling better soon. He also has some eczema which we need to watch out for. So far it's only on his ears and a little on his face. However one ear was starting to get infected, poor boy. One day later, and it's already looking so much better after special lotion.

The Baby Weight

Lately I've seen a lot of discussion and articles floating around on Facebook about pregnancy weight gain and losing the weight postpartum. Part of me wants to chime in with my experience, but I know mine is not usual. At the same time though, no one will have the same experience, so here is mine.
To give an overview of the past year, I'll start with my wedding day. I've never been athletic, and did not feel the need to work out prior to getting married. I was in school, working part of the time, trying to find an internship, and of course, planning a wedding. My normal used to be 140 but I was heavier than I had ever been. On my wedding day April 14, 2012, I weighed 155 lbs.

I found out I was pregnant in the middle of July. I am guessing that I weighed about 160 lbs.
Immediately, I got really sick. Because of this, I lost a lot of weight. By the end of July, I was down to 145. My lowest point was 135 in the middle of September. It was then I was put on Zofran and I was able to gain weight. Right before delivery, I was 168.

Overall I lost 25 lbs then put on 33. Parker was 8 lbs 3 oz when he was born. Between his weight and the amniotic fluid, I literally walked out the the hospital lighter than I was when I got pregnant. However my body is still very different. Most of my clothes still don't fit. My bum and legs are smaller than before while my chest, hips, and belly are bigger. Even though I wasn't in very good shape before getting pregnant, I am even worse now. With being sick and not very active, I have lost a lot of my muscle tone.

This morning I weighed 145, 10 lbs lighter than last year. Along with my anniversary, I have my 6 week appointment this week. I am looking forward to being able to work out again. More than loosing weight, I'm excited to be strong again.

As I think about future pregnancies  I wonder how my weight will fluctuate. I hope to go into another one stronger. Also, if I am on medication from the start, hopefully I won't loose weight while being pregnant. If I don't loose anything and gain 30+ lbs, that's completely alright. We put our bodies through the crazy experience of pregnancy and labor to have these sweet babies and that's way more important that any number some scale says.
